Pakistan WordPress Community Now Has Dedicated Channels in the Make WordPress Slack

The WordPress project is becoming more connected and multilingual, and the Pakistan WordPress community is now part of this exciting initiative.

Following WordPress’s multilingual Slack announcement, I submitted a request for dedicated channels for the Pakistan WordPress community within the Make WordPress Slack. The proposal included channels for general discussion, community events, education, and Urdu translation collaboration.

After discussions with members of the WordPress Community Team, the channels were approved and created. During the conversation, it was also suggested that translation channels should follow language codes rather than country codes. As a result, the Urdu translation channel was created as #polyglots-ur, allowing Urdu contributors from any region to collaborate in one place.

I am grateful to Karen Alma, Rocío Valdivia, and the wider WordPress Community Team for helping make this possible and for supporting the inclusion of Pakistan and the Urdu-speaking community within the global WordPress contributor network.

How It Started

Over the past few months, the WordPress project has been working to bring local communities from around the world closer together.

Earlier this year, WordPress co-founder Matt Mullenweg encouraged the project to make better use of the main Make WordPress Slack workspace. His vision was to bring contributors, WordCamp communities, and local groups closer together instead of having conversations spread across separate Slack workspaces.

A few months later, WordPress Executive Director Mary Hubbard announced a major initiative to welcome local communities, languages, and regional WordPress groups into the Make WordPress Slack.

The goal is simple: allow contributors to collaborate in their own languages while remaining connected to the wider WordPress project.

A WordCamp Europe 2026 Initiative

The creation of Pakistan’s channels was part of a broader effort that took place during WordCamp Europe 2026 Contributor Day.

As part of the Community Team’s multilingual Slack initiative, contributors worked on bringing local WordPress communities into the Make WordPress Slack workspace. During Contributor Day, Community Team members began creating dedicated channels for several countries and language communities, including Spain, Brazil, Italy, Poland, and Costa Rica.

Following the announcement, local communities were invited to request their own channels through the #community-slack-migration process. Pakistan joined this initiative shortly afterward, resulting in the creation of dedicated channels for the Pakistan WordPress community and the Urdu-speaking contributor community.

This effort helps ensure that local communities can collaborate in their own languages while remaining connected to the wider global WordPress project.

A New Opportunity for Pakistan

Pakistan has a growing number of WordPress professionals, freelancers, agencies, students, educators, organizers, and contributors. Many are already making valuable contributions to WordPress through translations, support forums, events, plugins, themes, documentation, and community building.

These new channels provide a shared space where we can connect more easily, support one another, and strengthen Pakistan’s presence within the global WordPress project.

If you are part of the Pakistan WordPress community, we invite you to join the Make WordPress Slack and participate in these channels.
