Eid ul Adha and WordPress Birthday on the Same Day

Today feels special.

This year marks something unique. It appears to be the first time since WordPress launched in 2003 that the birthday of WordPress and Eid ul Adha are being celebrated during the same calendar period.

Muslims around the world are celebrating Eid ul Adha today, thanking Allah and remembering the sacrifice, obedience, and teachings connected with Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) and Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Eid reminds us of gratitude, compassion, sharing, and caring for our communities.

At the same time, the global WordPress community is celebrating the 23rd birthday of WordPress and appreciating Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little for creating software that empowered millions of people through open source.

WordPress is more than just a platform. Thousands of volunteers around the world contribute their time by developing plugins, translating software, organizing events, helping users, writing documentation, and supporting the open-source ecosystem.

In many ways, both occasions remind us that real impact comes from giving.

For me personally, WordPress opened doors to learning, freelancing, friendships, and community building. Through projects like WPKitchen and local initiatives in Faisalabad, we continue trying to support freelancers, contributors, and underserved communities.

On this special day, it also feels important to thank Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little for creating WordPress in 2003 and opening opportunities for millions of people around the world. From freelancers and developers to students, bloggers, businesses, and communities, WordPress has helped countless people learn, earn, connect, and grow.

Today, we celebrate not only a software platform, but also the people and community behind it.

As part of the celebration, members of the WordPress Faisalabad community also shared photos with the animals they will sacrifice for Eid ul Adha. We created a small community collage to capture these moments of faith, gratitude, and togetherness.

Happy Birthday WordPress.
Eid Mubarak to everyone celebrating around the world.

May we continue building communities with kindness, contribution, and compassion.
